Disc Golf For Family Fitness
Disc golf, or frisbee golf, is a great fitness activity, and fun for the whole family. Children are able to manage basic frisbee throwing skills between 7 and 12 years of age, and adults can continue playing well into the 90's.
Disc golf is great upper and lower body exercise, and provides a fun way to continue exercising for 1 or more hours at a time. It is very inexpensive (all you need is a golf disc or frisbee), and most courses are free to play.
The game is similar to regular golf, with 18 holes, and you keep score by counting your throws. Start at the tee, and throw towards the target, a metal basket with chains that catch the frisbee. Using the same words as regular golf, you will throw your "drive" from the tee, and make a "chip shot" towards the basket. Then "putt" your frisbee into the chains.
Bowling Green has 7 courses to choose from, each with its own set of challenges, such as hills, trees, water, wind and varying distances. Weekly tournaments are open to all who wish to play, and the Bowling Green Disc Golf Club also hosts national tournaments, sanctioned by the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association).
