Do you and your family want to eat healthier, while still enjoying all your favorite foods?  Try using these alternative substitutions to save calories and trim the fat!

Instead of                      Try

 1 egg                                                    2 egg whites or ¼ cup liquid egg substitute

 Ground beef                                         Ground turkey breast

 Stick of margarine                                 Small amount of olive oil or canola oil; or broth

 1 cup of cream                                     1 cup evaporated skim milk

 Cream to thicken soups                        Pureed potatoes or vegetables

 Bread crumbs                                       Whole wheat bread crumbs or toasted wheat germ

 Wine                                                    Broth or apple juice

 2 oz. mild cheddar                                1 oz. reduced-fat sharp cheddar or extra-sharp

                                                            cheddar cheese

 White rice                                             Brown rice, kasha, or whole wheat couscous
