The Safe Routes to School program would like to encourage the Warren County community to assist in making safer routes that children can walk to and from school. You can do this in a variety of ways, but here are a few to consider:
· Start with a walking school bus. A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults. It can be as informal as two families taking turns walking their children to and from school, or as structured as a route with meeting points, a timetable and a regularly rotated schedule of trained volunteers.
· Start a bicycle train, which a variation of the walking school bus. Adults supervise children riding bikes to and from school.
If you are interested in starting a walking school bus or bicycle train or would like more information on the Safe Routes to School program, call Kim Flora at the Warren County Health Department at 270-781-2490, ext. 218 or email at kimd.flora@ky.gov.
